Alpha 12: Incoming transmission

Time limit: 2 hours

Advance to the Base

You finally have the opportunity to wipe the New Paradigm out of the sector. Before you head off on the away mission, begin researching the Heavy Cannon and then use it to replace the Medium Cannon on your tanks. Load up a truck and nine heavy combat units onto a transport and take off. The LZ is located in the southwest corner of the map. You must make your way across this island to the enemy base in the northeast. However, the LZ must be defended. Bring in another load of combat units as your truck begins constructing a Repair Facility and some defenses. Position your combat units near the two openings northeast of the LZ. The New Paradigm sends an un-welcoming committee before long.

After you have three loads of combat units at the LZ, bring in a Mortar group. Leave a group behind while the Mortar and the other two groups head east. There's an outpost to the east. It's well defended by bunkers and Towers. Use the Mortars to reduce the Towers first, then slowly pick away at the bunkers. Finally, move a combat group in to mop up. You find an Artifact that allows you to research Hover Technology.

Begin your slow advance up the narrow neck of land leading north. Along the way, you run into bunkers and Towers, both in your path and off on islands to the sides. Take these out with Mortars while your combat groups provide protection against enemy units. You come across a series of major defensive works. The bunkers are difficult to take out, so take your time and let the Mortars do their job, occasionally throwing in the other units to help out. During this time, continue to bring in reinforcements. The enemy will make several counterattacks against you. While the main force is advancing up the island, you can begin making some raids on the enemy. Build some Hover units with Heavy Cannons and send them around to the east, then north to attack the enemy LZ on the plateau. Also design Heavy Mortar and Sensor Hover units and use them to bombard the enemy from offshore. Hover units aren't as strong as your other units, so try to keep them out of major firefights as much as possible.

Into the Base

After you've broken through the first line of defenses at point, move toward the base entrance. Bombard the defenses, then rush in to begin destroying the structures. By now the counterattacks should come to an end, especially if you took control of the LZ. Use your Hover Mortar group to begin attacking defensive structures south of the enemy headquarters at point 5. Meanwhile, your main attack force begins its advance from the west after destroying all of the structures and defenses. The remainder of the mission is a bombardment by your Mortars. Wipe out the headquarters on top of the hill in the northeast to complete the mission.

It is helpful to build some amphibious units in this mission for a few reasons. First, they do a great job of taking out the towers on the islands, especially if you use the bunker buster. They can also take out tons of bunkers near the sea. Also, There is an island with a large cache of oil on it that is helpful for building more units.

well you should have a lot of oil at this stage, and it will be no use in the next mission, as you will restart with a low level and lose all your sparing...

when i get hover, i upgrade all, hover are really much quicker (so i can easely retreat if any problems)

arriving to the north, combat unit are going through the earth and mortar are following the east side sea to rip away the def structures around the last north base

Be slow first in the early base south and second in the north behind the power generator because of some launcher units and towers.

after cleaning this area, i go around the mountain by the sea to eliminate 2 annoying mortars difficult to get them from up
the last base is a piece of cake if your mortars have done a good side job before.

I just use 2 loads , more will make your troups jamming which can be very dangerous too!

This mission is relatively easy as long as you don't do dumb things like charge into the middle of a base without weakening it first. I like to build another repair facility about where the enemy LZ is, after I've secured that area, so my slow tracked tanks don't have to drive all the way back.

I also tend to use lancers instead of heavy cannons - at least at first - to fight off enemy tanks. I use hover lancers the whole time as support for when the enemy sends a whole pile of tanks: glide in, fire all rockets, glide out of range, reload, repeat.

Even without anything as exotic as hover you can win this one. The trick: a pincer movement. Use trucks with some defence by combat units to build mortars along both the NE shoreline to wards the northern enemy base as well as on the NW approaches. A good group of mortars and rocket pods with a sensor tank are good for clearing out counter-attack groups without getting in range to get hit. A repair facility near the front line is worth putting in as you advance. I put in two in forward positions, one for each area I put in mortars, so trucks can get repaired and carry on while the other side still has defences in place.

No matter what I do here, the enemy always sends at least 10 heavy cannon tanks at my LZ with mortars behind them. I'm wiped out before the second transport even arrives.

I've tried hiding in the dark corner, upgrading units and rushing at the enemy...but none work. Building defences works almost long enough to land the second transport, but once the truck is gone due to the tank misses...

I spent a week trying to win this one.

Key factors to winning:
1. Commanders
2. Hovercraft and python bunker busters
3. Unit retreat settings - this is very important!
4. Repair facilities close to the front line

Commanders + medium retreat setting will ensure that your units retreat for repair before they die and then return to the commander - this will drastically reduce your tactical overhead and unit losses.
Having facilities close to front lines will ensure units return to battle quickly. Every time you advance build a facility close by.

== LZ ==

To hold on to LZ send in a python commander, python lancers, a python repair and a python truck. Immediately order another drop of lancers and repair and have the truck build out antitank turrets. When the enemy arrives don't let the commander wing it, tell him what to do, otherwise you are toast. Destroy enemy lancers first, destroy enemy radar as soon as possible since it directs artillery, then go for the tanks. If all goes well your transport should arrive in 30 seconds or so. Once it arrives immediately order more of the same. Depending on your commanders experience level you may need to bring more of them as well.

Important point: once assault units arrive set their retreat settings to medium or more before you assign them to commanders - otherwise you will shed units very quickly.

Enemy will keep coming in, but at this point your repair should have mended most of your units. Have the truck build a repair facility, a sensor tower and beef up the turret defences around the LZ access choke points. At this point you should be strong enough to fend off anything the enemy throws at you.

== Eastern Outpost ==

Order python bombards. Build a sensor tower right next to the mountain to the east, place the bombards close and assign them to the sensor. They will start hitting everything in sensors' reach at which point waves of enemy tanks and cyborgs will start pouring in. That whole area gets very crowded but you will have to deal with it - send in a commander with an assault force to fend off the waves. While all of this is happening order python bunker busters.
By the time they arrive the outpost should be weakened to the point where busters can roll in and destroy the turrets/towers out of artillery reach.
Grab the artifact and immediately research hovercraft - this is the key to beating this stage.

== Northern Outpost and Main Base==
While you're doing the access cleanup make sure you are listening to your reseach completion message. As soon as research is done start building hover python busters and hover python commanders to lead them.

Have truck build at least two repair facilities.

To clear access (towers/turrets all over the place) use a commander with busters, back him with an assault commander - enemy will try to defend its structures. Don't let them wing it, actively tell commanders what to do. Busters will clean up the access area very quickly. While this is happening bring the bombards close to enemy LZ, they will destroy the four turrets there and bomb anything that lands.

At this point you should have at least one hover commander with hover busters - send them in to clean up the west and north sides of the northern outpost. The northern side is critical, there are 3-4 antitank turrets/bunkers there which will make things very difficult for you if you dont destroy them before advancing to the main base.

Now the busy part begins. Build repair facilities, your units will need them. Your assault units will have to protect you buster units while they clear out the outpost turrets and structures. Wipe out the sensor tower first! Once the outpost is cleared send the hover busters to clean up the south shore of the main enemy base, aid them with everything you've got on land because the configuration of the enemy turret is such that they will wipe out units quickly. Once the turrets are cleared out go for the main base. Use busters for the corner towers, assault units for the cyborgs that will pour out. At this point you outnumber the enemy approximately 4 to 1 which means you're pretty much done here.

Good luck, you're goign to need it.

2 trucks 8 cannon tanks.

An Alternative way build a repair structure right on your LZ (closest possible) and don't move any tanks. as soon at that is done i build 3 mortor pits and a tower just south of LZ

Meanwhile when they come for you in there offense rotate your tanks most damaged send next to the Repair station. if you sit next to them the station will repair them just because there close.

* kill the sensor truck if you can get to it without losing anything.
