Heavy Machinegun Hardpoint has the same gun, better defense, more HP and both are at $100.
Why build Machinegun Guard Towers?

Because you might not have researched the Heavy Machinegun Hardpoint yet. (The Guard Tower can be researched much faster than the Hardpoint).
