These can be used offensively instead of defensively too -

Purchase three Cyborg Transport VTOL's - Load one with Combat engineers, another with Grenadiers, and the last with machine gunner cyborgs, or another model of your choosing. Fly them into the area you want destroyed. Deploy the grenadiers and machine gunners to secure the area from enemy units, then set the engineer cyborgs to work building the mass driver. Once it's done, load the cyborgs again, and fly off! That thing will have the entire area cleared withing minutes!

There is a small problem with you plan, if you did not realize by the time you have Mass Driver, your enemy most likely has Gausses, and that would mean that your fort is rubish to those tanks, and with the units you plan to use should be scraped for super needle gun borgs and super scorge missle borgs
