It takes one power, yes, ONE POWER to research machine gun.. it shouldnt cost anything if they put it that low XD

(v2.3.8) Your first real weapon. Sticks and stones are fine for breaking bones, but if you want to see a Cyborg squirm in pain, then this may not be for you. Surprisingly, a Cyborg –anything- can kill a normal, cheap light tank with wheels and still be cost efficient. Cyborg killing most likely won’t be seen from the machine gun until it hits the Heavy Machine gun.
Until then, this turret is useful for fending off early game predators, such as trucks or other machine guns. It loses face when faced against walls, structures, and some Tanks as with every Anti-Personnel weapon. It performs average against wheeled and hovers.

Neh. I just go straight for the Twin machinegun. From my point of view, yes, it's the cheapest tech there is in the game (1 power to research, probably due to the fact that the 7.62 mm chaingun is nearly obsolete in 2100), and good for early game harrassing , but the Twin Machinegun boasts more damage than this turret, but the range 4.5-6 isn't that half-bad with 2 levels of researching the Hardened MG bullets tho. And, yeah, the Twin Machinegun and Mini Rocket Pod should definetely be good for unprepared bases, and later on the Mini Rocket Array. Furthermore, research and build the Machinegun bunker, it makes a good defensive line while you're researching, collecting power for research and producing units. I'd rather let cyborgs blow up by rockets, it's truly a sight to behold. (Lechibang)
